Laurie Hughell has extensive experience in rheumatology and joined our Arthritis Center staff in 2004.

“I really enjoy getting to know our patients; not just treating their arthritis, but more importantly, helping them to improve their quality of life,” says Laurie.

• Laurie is from South Dakota and earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of South Dakota.
• She came to Des Moines to attend Des Moines University where she received her Masters of Science degree in Physician Assistant studies.
• She added to her expertise by completing a fellowship in geriatrics and completed her Master of Public Health degree in 2004.
• Laurie is active in the Association of Rheumatology and is a member of the Rheumatology Association of Iowa.
• She serves as rheumatology professor and a clinical mentor to students in the Physician Assistants program at Des Moines University.

In her free time, Laurie enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children, reading and running.
